How to Stop Drooping Eyelids

Posted on January 30th, 2019

Drooping EyelidsWhile people often use Botox injections for taking care of fine lines and wrinkles, did you know you can also use it to stop your eyelids from drooping? Botox, along with surgery, eye patches, and eye exercises, can go a long way toward sorting your problem. However, it’s first necessary to understand why you are suffering from a drooping eyelid in the first place.

When you have a drooping eyelid, you will hear medical professionals refer to it as ptosis. It can affect only one of your eyes or both, and can even cause visibility problems if your eyelid droops beyond your pupil. The cause of ptosis can vary. You may get it because your eyelid muscles are weak, or because your eyelid’s tendon muscle has separated. Ptosis is also common in people who have a neurological or muscular condition or suffered an injury or stroke.

While drooping eyelids can affect your self-esteem, it’s not something that needs to ruin your life. Instead, take care of it with Botox injections, surgery an eye patch, or eye exercises. Below, we explain how each option works.

Botox Injections

If you are looking to take care of ptosis sooner rather than later, then Botox could be something to consider. The process is straightforward, effortless, and you only need to carry out treatment every six months, approximately. What’s more, Botox injections will tighten the skin around your eyes, enhancing the results and giving you a reflection of which you can be proud.

How Much Do Botox Injections Cost?

Posted on August 24th, 2017

botox-injectionIf you are considering anti-wrinkle treatment such as Botox injections, you’ll want to know upfront how much it costs. When you make an appointment, often this won’t be discussed over the phone because it might depend on just how much treatment is needed and the doctor can only decide this after examining you.  They don’t want to risk telling you the wrong price, so they prefer to wait.

However, how doctors charge can vary. Some charge by the amount of Botox used, so it is a cost per ampoule; others charge by facial zone, so if you have only eyebrow treatment done, that is one charge, while if you have forehead and eyes treated you’ll the charged for two zones.  Others may charge per time + the cost of the Botox.

However, generally speaking the cost is worked out by how much Botox is used, because the treatment only takes a few minutes, depending on how much you have done, and how active your muscles are. For someone whose muscles are highly active, more Botox will be needed to ensure they don’t move.

Botox is sold by the unit and a single unit costs $9-15.  While that doesn’t seem much, it is likely to take between 10 and 20 units to treat one area such as the forehead, so the cost can escalate quickly and can end up somewhere between $90 and $300 for just one zone or area of the face. If you are having two areas treated, the cost can double.

Botox for Plumper Lips?

Posted on January 9th, 2017

plump lips botoxEvery woman likes to look her best and many follow the latest trends slavishly in order to ensure they look younger and more beautiful that nature made them. To this end, many people want to plump up their lips and think that Botox could be used for this purpose because both the treatment and the results are quick. But in fact, this product is not used for plumping the lips, even though it may have that effect.

What happens is that tiny wrinkles form from the top of the top lip and go up in a vertical line. It is these wrinkles, called smoker’s wrinkles that Botox is used to treat. When it is injected into the wrinkle right close to the lip line, it has the secondary effect of plumping up the lips. While many women like this effect, you have to remember that Botox numbs the muscles under the skin, so if too much is injected you may not be able to smile or control drooling.

Luckily, if this happens you only have to wait for 3-4 months and you’ll get back to normal. After that, you may want to consider having a different kind of treatment to make your lips look plumper. This will usually be a dermal filler injected into the lip area. Dermal fillers will last longer than Botox and won’t cause any numbness in the muscles, so you won’t have to worry about drooling or smiling. But if the idea of having another needle in your lips makes you shudder you will need to stick with learning how to make your lips look plumper using makeup.

preventive botox treatmentMany women look forward to the onset of wrinkles with dread and wish they didn’t ever have to have lines on their face, even though they can be treated. These people consider preventative Botox injections should be given, so the wrinkles never form.  There are many pros and cons to having preventative treatment and doctors can side one way or the other.

To many cosmetic doctors, having preventative Botox when your face is still smooth and young looking is totally unnecessary. The trouble is that the more muscle movement there is, the sooner those wrinkles will start forming.  However, there is a time to start and a time to wait. Here are the pros and cons of having preventative Botox treatment.

Pros

  • Wrinkles will never appear on your face so you’ll remain younger looking instead of aging with wrinkles and then suddenly looking younger without them.
  • Muscle movement will be stopped so the wrinkles don’t form.
  • Your confidence in your good looks will make you more likely to succeed in other areas of life.
  • It can be used to contour the face so it looks better.

Why Is Botox Treatment Better Than Using Wrinkle Creams?

Posted on July 17th, 2012

p61The very thing that makes Botox different is also the reason no wrinkle cream can compare with its results. Wrinkles do not start on the surface but beneath it. Creams, dermal abrasions and other topical treatments cannot hope to have much of an effect on things that are happening beneath the dermis.

Wrinkles start below the surface in the muscles. This is much farther than any surface treatment can penetrate. Yes, well moisturized skin has less visible wrinkles but that is only a pacifying move. As soon as the skin dries the wrinkles will reappear. The truth is there is not one cream on the market that works as good as or better than or just like Botox.

Creams reduce the size and depth of the creases but nothing like the results that you can get with Botox. Even the best wrinkle cream will take weeks to show any results at all while you see Botox results the same day and it gets better over the next couple of days. Creams have to be applied daily and some even have to be applied several times a day. This can mean using many tubes or jars of cream in months time.

One first inspection the cost of creams makes them seem like a much better bargain than Botox but that is just a façade. The truth is that over time you spend twice as much on creams than you do on the 4x a year treatment. A Botox treatment generally last between 3-6 months. While it cost anywhere from 300-1200 dollars a treatment thinks about it only takes 2-4 treatments each year.
